Hispanic Heritage Highlight: Mrs. Ainsworth

Fernanda Ainsworth, HS Engineering Teacher:

I am from Mexico, born and raised until 27 when I married an American. My father's family actually comes from Spain, my grandfather migrated to Mexico when he was 25 years old. My mother's family is from Puebla, Mexico where I grew up.

Tell me something you are proud about your Hispanic Heritage:
We value family as a whole and believe in the importance of unity, preserving traditions, and passing down our rich cultural heritage to future generations.

What does it mean to you to work in education as a Latina?
It’s a great opportunity to share my culture, promote diversity, and make a global impact through teaching and learning. Also, make a positive impact on individuals and communities

What is something everyone should try as a way to celebrate Hispanic heritage?
Trying traditional new dishes to savor the rich flavors and culinary diversity and also travel to Hispanic countries to experience their culture and celebrations firsthand, immersing yourself in the local traditions

Do you have a favorite food or recipe you would recommend?
Chiles en Nogada, are one of my absolute favorites. It is a traditional Mexican dish that is closely associated with the month of September, particularly because around Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th. There are a few reasons why it is primarily served during this time:
Seasonal ingredients such as walnuts and pomegranate The dish has the three colors for the Mexican flag green= poblano peppers, white = nogada sauce, and red = pomegranate garnish which are believed to celebrate Mexican culture, history, and independence.
