Secondary Announcements

for students and families

August 11, 2025

From Dr. Ellis . . .

Good morning! We had a very successful first two days of school. As a tradition, Rapoport Academy Public School has started on a Thursday. This gives us the opportunity for everyone in the community--students, staff, and families--to get to know our routines and expectations and then launch into the first full week ready. This week we are ready!

Every Monday, you can expect a Weekly Announcements message from ParentSquare. This will be the main hub of information for our Secondary Campus with important announcements, key dates, and reminders. Be sure to watch for other posts from teachers and staff throughout the week. You will hear about more specific grade-level or campus announcements from teachers and our Deans of Students.

Below are some important announcements and some reminders as we launch into our first full week ready to go.

First Day of School Photos

Amazing 1st Day

We had an amazing first day of school. You can access the first day photo album here:

A Change to How You’ll Get Texts From Our School

Soon, many of the text messages you get from our school via ParentSquare will come from regular 10-digit phone numbers. This will make it easier to see who is messaging you. For example, a message from your child’s teacher will come from a different phone number than a message from the school office.
What’s changing?
Right now, most texts come from a 5-digit number. Soon, you’ll start getting texts from different regular 10-digit phone numbers for:

  • Direct messages
  • Classroom and group posts
  • School posts
Messages from the district, digests and alerts will still come from the 5-digit number.

What should you do?
When you receive a message from one of these new 10-digit numbers, save it to your contacts. Here are some suggestions:

  • Save a teacher’s number as: Ms. Davis - 4th Grade
  • Save classroom/group posts as: Lincoln Elementary Classes
  • Save school posts number as: Lincoln Elementary Updates

Cell Phone Policies

HB 1481 was passed by the Texas Legislature this summer, enacting a law for the Prohibition for Student Use of Personal Communication Devices. This includes “a telephone, cell phone such as a smartphone or flip phone, tablet, smartwatch, radio device, paging device, or any other electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication.”

Here is what you need to know:
  • Students will be allowed to carry a phone to and from school
  • ALL students MUST turn in their cell phone (and Smart Watch) when they enter the building each morning
  • We will store cell phones and smart watches until the end of the day
This is NOT new for PreK-7th Grades, but this is very new for 8th-12th graders.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Can my student bring her/his phone to school?
Yes, but they must turn it in at the front office of each building.

What does the law mean by "Personal Communication Device?"
It means a telephone, cell phone such as a smartphone or flip phone, tablet, smartwatch, radio device, paging device, or any other electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication.

Where will my child turn their cell phone in?
5th: Annex Front Office
6th: Quinn Front Office
7th: Quinn Front Office
8th: 8th Grade Lobby
9-12th: Gomez Front Office (all High School students will be required to enter the Gomez building at the start of the day to turn in their cell phone or other devices)

What if my child arrives late or needs to leave early?
Parents/Guardians must sign their child out in the Front Office and can pick up their child's phone from the Administrative Assistant. Phones will be stored throughout the day at each of the front desks. 5th: Annex Building, 6-8th: Quinn Building, 9-12th: Gomez Building

Can my child keep their cell phone at home instead?
Yes, it is up to the family on whether your child needs her/his phone before or after school.

What happens if my child doesn't turn in their phone?
Cell phones will be treated as a Level II offense and handled by our Office Staff, Deans of Students and/or Behavior Coach. Phones will be confiscated and only returned to a parent/guardian. Repeated Level II offenses become Level III offenses and eventually can become Level IV offenses that affect students enrollment at Rapoport.

FREE Breakfast & Lunch

Rapoport Academy Public School will operate the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2025-26 school year.

Schools qualifying to operate CEP serve breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge, eliminating the need to collect meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals.

This approach reduces burdens for both families and school administrators and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.
