Information Session
Rapoport Academy Public School (FREE - NO TUITION) is hosting an all grade level Information Session Monday, July 12, 7:00 pm, at Quinn Middle School, 1020 Elm Ave. For further information, contact Gaylene Reed: 855-2397.
The Mad Hatter wasn’t late for this tea party. In fact, Clara Schattschneider (Mad Hatter) arrived just in time to serve the Cheshire Cat (Gage Cassidy) a spot of tea! Rapoport Academy 3rd graders celebrated the final day of a cross-curricular study of Alice in Wonderland with an authentic tea party. Guests included--a Queen of Hearts, a mouse and other colorful characters. Pulling math, critical thinking, map skills, art, p.e., and other subjects into a literature lesson turned a wonderful novel into a meaningful, hands-on and exciting study. The colorful map of “Wonderland” was created by Lily DeAnda.
Simple Machines
Students have been working hard on the Simple Machines unit in their 2nd grade class. Pictured below students are working together to build their own machines out of legos. Engineers in the making!
Civil Rights Talk Show
In February, Mrs. Crumpton's and Mrs. Sallee's 2nd grade classes learned about the Civil Rights by presenting their very own talk show! Volunteer members of the Waco community played the roles of prominent Civil Rights figures and Rapoport 2nd graders conducted the interviews.
We are very grateful to our wonderful volunteers:
*Kelly DuShane, Meyer High School -- Susan B. Anthony
*Alexis Neumann, TSTC -- Mary McLeod Bethune
*Lisa Hull, Community Bank and Trust -- Eleanor Roosevelt
*Jamilah Tigner -- Rosa Parks
*Marcus Balch, TSTC -- Jackie Robinson
*Willow Farrah, R.A. Elementary 4th grader -- Martin Luther King, Jr.
*Mr. Abnous, R.A. Elementary -- Cesar Chavez

Fall Festival
In November, the students and staff at Rapoport Elementary enjoyed a day of games at their Fall Festival. Parents and volunteer high school students from around Waco came to participate in the fun.
National Young Readers Day
In honor of National Young Readers Day, teachers at Rapoport Elementary dressed up as their favorite children’s book character. The students’ imaginations were awakened as they learned from the characters they have been reading about. Look for some of your favorite characters from Where the Wild Things Are, The Magic School Bus, Amelia Bedelia and more.
A+ Hummer Rides
Several elementary students who met the goal for our fundraising initiative earned the privilege of riding in a chauffeured limousine to a pizza party!
Eastern Cultures
Second grade students at the elementary are researching different cultures. Guest speaker, Mr. Tan, is doing dual duty---speaking about both India and Japan. In the first pictures, students tasted his homemade Indian rice and curried dahl. In the last pictures, he displayed and discussed his Samari sword as part of the unit on Japan.
