Program

The academic program at Quinn Middle School is designed both to extend and reinforce the curriculum students receive at Rapoport Elementary and to prepare students for advanced academic work at Meyer High School. Rapoport Academy employs a vertically-aligned K-8 scope and sequence, developed by our master teachers, that incorporates the Core Knowledge curriculum with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Each grade level develops one or more business proposals and operates a class business using real money--an extension of the entrepreneurship program that begins in 1st grade.

In preparation for high school, we begin our STEM program at the middle school level. STEM activities are designed to introduce students to concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through integrated, hands-on learning. Our lead science teacher at the middle school, Jill Barrow, was formerly the education director at the Mayborn Museum at Baylor University. Students can take courses such as Algebra I for high school credit, giving them a wider range of course options once they reach Meyer High.

Our program includes music and art instruction, an academically-grounded PE program designed to connect physical fitness to related concepts in science and math, and a range of enrichment opportunities designed to introduce students to a range of activities: from cooking to golf to knitting. Students also have the opportunity to participate in athletics, including basketball, volleyball, and track. Other activities available to students include history fair and science fair.

We also hold an annual Career Day, in which students are able to meet professionals in fields in which they have an expressed interest. From pre-K through 12th grade, our program is designed to foster a college-going culture. To this end, students begin college tours in the fifth grade at Quinn Middle School. Fifth graders tour local colleges and universities (Baylor, MCC, TSTC), while 6th-8th graders explore an ever widening range of post-secondary institutions throughout Texas. These activities are designed to educate students about college and career options.
