American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Funds: Rapoport Academy received over $57,000 in State Fiscal Stabilization Funds as part of the ARRA of 2009. See below for information about how these funds are being used:
Short Project Title: Modernization Renovation and Repair of Facility
Description of Project: Renovation of Grant Hall on Quinn Campus to provide dining hall and fine arts space for Rapoport Academy middle school and high school students.
Estimated Total Cost of Project: $1,112,475
Amount of ARRA Funds to be Used: $57,000
School Report Cards (TEC 39.252): Public schools are evaluated annually through Texas Education Agency's Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS). You can access the 2008-2009 AEIS school report card for each Rapoport Academy campus by clicking on its name: Rapoport Elementary; Quinn Middle; Meyer High. Highly Qualified Teachers (No Child Left Behind Act): The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation requires that schools report the percentage of teachers who are considered Highly Qualified as defined by NCLB, as well as the percentage of classes taught by Highly Qualified teachers. Student Privacy Rights (34 CFR Part 99): Students and their families should be aware that they are afforded certain rights regarding the privacy of their educational records and their ability to opt of of certain information-gathering activities. The rights are guaranteed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the related Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA). PSAT (HB 1844): The PSAT will be administered on 10/14/2009. Testing will begin at 8:15am—students should be present and seated prior to that time.
Immunizations (HB 1059): State law requires that public school students receive a variety of immunizations. For a list of required immunizations (in English and Spanish) and information on exceptions to those requirements, visit the Texas Department of State Health Services website. Immunization shots are dispensed at a number of health clinics in Waco, including the Family Health Center (609 Elm Ave.) and through the McLennan Country Public Health District.
College Credit (SB 282): Meyer High School students can earn college credit beginning in 9th grade in several ways: 1) Concurrent enrollment at TSTC (courses offered on TSTC campus and on Meyer campus by TSTC instructors or via distance learning); 2) Dual-credit courses offered through TSTC (taught by qualified Meyer High staff); 3) Advanced Placement courses taught by Meyer High staff. Employment Opportunities (SB 387): Open positions for which a license or certificate is required will be posted to the website for at least 10 days before the vacancy is filled. Click 'Employment' on the top navigation bar to see a list of vacant positions.
Student Health and Physical Education (SB 42):
- Full-time physical education staff at Rapoport Elementary School and Quinn Middle School ensure that students at those campuses engage in at least 30 minutes a day or 135 minutes a week of physical activity;
- Rapoport Academy's School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) held an annual meeting during the 2008-2009 school year;
- The district does not allow campuses to maintain vending machines on campus. Student handbooks outline our policy prohibiting access to vending machines at the YMCA during school hours. All campuses participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and follow all relevant food service guidelines;
- Possession or use of tobacco products on any campus and at any school-sponsored event is expressly prohibited. District administration enforces this policy.
- Parents have the right to request their child's physical fitness assessment at the end of the school year.
